YOU'VE BEEN DRAFTED, THINK YOU'RE GOOD

Nate Oliver

No matter how much you work and dream, no matter your successes and shortcomings, you will always remember the ones who were with you....

When first drafted, here's what Nate had to say to me:

"Look fool! These folks ain't tryin to throw their money away. They still tryin to win!"

-Nate Oliver

My leader, my mentor, my friend!

HOW TO FIND YOUR HITTING INSTRUCTOR

HITTING INSTRUCTION

Many hitting instructors can indentify flaws at ball strike, but, most flaws at ball strike are a direct result of a flaw in either the set up, or the "first move" (set-up/start) in the swing.

Because the swing is a sequenced kinetic chain of events, one leading into the next, the error at ball strike, if often due to an earlier error. For example, a hitting coach may see that a player is rolling over at the point of contact and begin working hand path drills.

A coach/player must determine "Why" are the hands rolling over? Here is a scenerio:

The player is overloading his backside, getting his rear knee over his ankle/foot. Instead of advancing forward, knee inside ankle/foot, the rear knee stays over his ankle and spins there during rotation. The "spinning" action causes his upper body to rotate off the ball in a "one piece" swing or "gate" swing.

The counter action of the front shoulder opening at the same time as the hip, causes his hands to counteract and disconnect away from the body. Because of the early extension with the arms, the hands have to roll over to get back to the point of contact. All of this is because of the earlier error in the load.

You see, the earlier the error in the kinetic/start chain, more errors will result as you move through your swing.

Hitting coaches have to determine what "first cause" is to really fix the chain.  Anything else is just giving a "massage" to the swing."

Finding "first cause" is a mandatory first step toward significant improvement.

Most all hitting instructors can find what is wrong in the swing, but how many can tell you "Why?"

It's an absolute "must" to trust and work with a hitting instructor with the background and experience to identify, explain, and correct the "cause" and other flaws to make you the hitter you want to be!

THE BEST PITCHERS HAVE THIS

PITCHING CONTROL

No doubt about it. Pitchers that have mastered control of every pitch can dominate!
Mastering that control takes practice.
So what can you do starting today to ensure you begin the process of gaining pin-point control?
First and foremost is learning proper mechanics.
Every motion you make up to release of the ball is so important. And every movement effects how you release the ball.
Our advice: never stop perfecting your pitching mechanics.
Another tip on developing great control is throwing with a purpose.
We have talked about this several times when we relate it to mechanics. But what about throwing to a smaller target every single time you throw the ball?
Every time you warm up with someone always pick a dime-sized target on their shirt and throw to it.
Think of it like target practice.
When you pitch you want to have precision control. This is an excellent way to practice. Remember, don't waste a throw.

Make every throw count and you will be surprised how much better you will become.
